Thanks to a lot of hard work over the last few days, the playlist is now more than three and a half days long, but I won't feel really comfortable about broadcasting 24/7 until I have at least a week's worth. That seems like the magic number to me where the repetition becomes less obvious.
But the really exciting and somewhat terrifying thing is that I've started recording station IDs and implementing them into the playlist. What's a station ID? That would be whenever you hear me saying something like "You're listening to Dynamic Range Radio, thanks for tuning in." Although I try to make them more interesting than that.
It's exciting because it's something new, but it's disconcerting because I hate the sound of my voice. I definitely didn't start up DRR to hear myself babbling on and on about the music I'm playing. I'll keep the chatter to a bare minimum, but sometimes it's necessary when I'm ending a set built around a theme, or when songs simply won't flow together smoothly no matter how much I want them to. Of course, if I used a lot of compression like all those other stations do, it would make the transitions between songs a lot easier, but that's not a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
I'm reasonably happy with the station IDs I've come up with so far, although the quality of some of them could be better. They'll definitely be improving over time, but for now if you have any comments on them, feel free to leave them here.
Way to go John! I just tuned in and "Suddenly Mary" by The Posies was playing! I wonder where that came from? Keep up the good work!
