Recently Added Tracks - Back To School Edition

Are you feeling down because you’re back at work or back to school? Has the chillier weather and earlier sunsets left you feeling on edge? Then try this little trick from my upcoming book “Bachelor Lifestyle Tips: Living Like A Pig And Loving It.”

Spill some coffee grinds on your kitchen floor and leave them there until they dry. Take off your socks, put Jan & Dean on your iPod, close your eyes, and dip your toes into the coffee grinds.  The feeling of ground coffee between your toes will magically transport you back to the beach and wash all your cares away.

But whatever you do, don’t use fresh coffee grinds because that’s a waste of coffee, and wasting coffee goes against everything I stand for.

If you’re stuck at work or school and can’t use my patented coffee grind relaxation therapy, then tune in to Dynamic Range Radio and hopefully you’ll catch some of these new songs that were added into the mix over the past few months.

Metric - Youth Without Youth

Canadian indie-rockers Metric are back with a new album "Synthetica", and the first single "Youth Without Youth" now has an official video.

If I closed my eyes you wouldn't have a hard time convincing me that this was a long-lost Goldfrapp b-side, but if I closed my eyes I wouldn't have the pleasure of seeing Emily Haines in that revealing outfit. Oh Emily, you're making thing happen in my Hanes. Do I have an off-chance with that corker of a girl?

"Youth Without Youth" may be a misleading title for this song since Emily Haines appears to be ageing without ageing.

Recently Added Tracks: Norah Jones, Anais Mitchell, and The Walkmen

It was a busy week for me adding tracks into heavy rotation, so here's a wrapup of the three different artists you'll be hearing a lot more of over the coming months on Dynamic Range Radio.

The biggest change to the playlist comes from Norah Jones, who has not one but two songs added to heavy rotation. For those who are keeping track, the number of times Norah Jones was played last week: once. The number of times Norah Jones will be played this week: closer to ten. This is the first time I've ever had a Norah Jones song in Heavy Rotation, with both the title track "Little Broken Hearts" and the lead single "Happy Pills" making the cut. Here's a very solid live version of "Little Broken Hearts":

Recently Added Tracks - Spring 2012

Spring is in the air, taxes have been paid, the Vancouver Canucks have been eliminated, and I'm realizing that my body is in no way ready for the beach. That means summer is right around the corner, which makes it a good time to look back on all the tracks added to Dynamic Range Radio over the past few months.

Heavy Rotation
Alabama Shakes - Hold On
The Cranberries - Tomorrow
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
Heartless Bastards - Parted Ways
Oh Land - Perfection
Tom Waits - Talking At The Same Time
Tom Waits - Get Lost

Recently Added Tracks - Winter 2012

The period from October through February gives me lots to blog about, starting with the Halloween broadcast then year-end charts all the way up to the Dynammy Awards. That means I haven't posted a list of recently added tracks for a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been adding new music to the rotation.

Here's a list of all the tracks played for the first time between November and January:

M83 - Midnight City
Shearwater - You As You Were
Shearwater - Breaking The Yearlings
Wilco - Born Alone

Recently Added Tracks - Summer 2011

Now In Heavy Rotation: Fleet Foxes & TV On The Radio

I've had a rough couple of weeks fighting to keep my crappy day job and searching for a less crappy day job, all while battling a sinus infection, so there hasn't been a lot of time left over for adding new music.

My crappy day job appears to be safe for now, and my head didn't feel quite so stuffy yesterday, so I had enough energy to add music from the latest albums by Fleet Foxes and TV On The Radio. Here's the official video for "Will Do" and a live version of "Bedouin Dress".

Now In Heavy Rotation: Elbow - Lippy Kids

I was never a huge fan of Elbow in the past, with Grounds For Divorce being a notable exception, but I'm liking the new album "Build A Rocket Boys" quite a bit, thanks in part to excellent sound quality and dynamics.

Lippy Kids is probably my favourite track from the album so far, but you can except to hear High Ideals in the future as well.

Now In Heavy Rotation: Handsome Furs & PJ Harvey

Here are two new tracks for you to enjoy in the coming weeks, one from a band I've played a lot in the past, and one from an artist I've never played before. Doesn't it seem a bit odd that PJ Harvey had never made Dynamic Range Radio's playlist until today? Consider that oversight corrected.

Handsome Furs - What About Us

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Now In Heavy Rotation: Cut Copy "Need You Now"

After a frustrating week of technical problems and unexpected expenses, I still managed to add a bit of new music to the rotation, because bringing people music I enjoy is what makes it all worthwhile.

Here's the single edit of Cut Copy's "Need You Now", which is not my preferred version of the song, but it gives you a taste of what you'll be hearing on Dynamic Range Radio. The album version is a couple of minutes longer, flows more naturally, and has an extended intro that makes this edit feel a bit rushed.

Dynamic Range Radio's Recently Added Tracks: December - February
