I'm getting a little tired of hearing my own voice on Dynamic Range Radio, so I thought it would be fun to get listeners recording their own station IDs and sweepers.
As long as you have the ability to record your voice and deliver it to me as a .wav, .mp3, or .flac file, that's all you need. No professional recording equipment required.
Here's an example of what one listener recorded on his Macbook:
And here's the edited version I've started using for broadcast:
A basic station ID would be something like Zeke recorded, "Hi, this is (your name here) from (your hometown) and I'm listening to Dynamic Range Radio."
And if you're a supporting listener you could record something that helps other listeners understand why you choose to support the station.
Try to keep it to thirty seconds or less, be as creative as you like, and try to record it in the best quality possible. A .wav or .flac file would be best, but a high-bitrate mp3 would also work.
Try to keep the background noise to a minimum so that listeners can clearly hear your voice. On the bus, on the sidewalk, or in a noisy office would not be ideal.
And if you hate hearing your own voice played back to you, try not to worry about it. Authenticity is what I'm looking for, not a seasoned radio voice. It took me a long time to get used to hearing my own voice on DRR and you couldn't sound much worse than some of the IDs I've recorded.
Once you're finished, there's three ways you can send the file to me
1) use to form at the bottom of this page to upload your file
2) post it somewhere I can easily download it (SoundCloud, for example)
3) or send it to me at the following email address: johnerle (at) dynamicrangeradio.ca
And if you have any questions about what would be a suitable station ID, just ask.
I look forward to hearing what my listeners can come up with.
