Dynamic Range Radio's Weekly Charts - Updated Sept. 12th

UPDATE: It looks like there was some sort of glitch on Last.FM's servers which caused some data to be missing from the charts that were generated on Monday. Whatever the glitch was, it's apparently been fixed, but that means the charts I wrote about a few days ago no longer exist. I'll leave what I wrote for posterity's sake, but the charts no longer match what was written. I think in the future I'll just post the charts and skip the analysis in case this happens again. If you're really interested in analyzing the playlist data, you can click on any of the chart images to explore the database in full on my Last.FM profile.

It's time for the second edition of Dynamic Range Radio's weekly charts, made possible once again by Last.FM.

The big news this week is the appearance of "Finally Understand" by The Honorary Title, which vaults 17 spots into the top ten during its second week on the charts. Also climbing significantly were Crowded House's "She Called Up" and Little Man Tate's "Three Day Rule", two songs which share lyrical qualities as well as a spot on the top of the charts.

With the way I construct my playlists, and since record companies aren't exactly beating down my door to send me promo CDs, there probably won't be a ton of change from week to week, especially since I don't completely believe in the heavy rotation concept. One of the main complaints on other internet radio stations I used to listen to was that they would play certain tracks to death once they were added into heavy rotation, so I plan to stay away from that as much as possible. Four plays per week for the tracks in heaviest rotation seems fairly reasonable to me, especially since they'll be appearing at different times of the day, but I'm open to the idea of change if my listeners think that four times per week is overdoing it, or if it isn't enough for the latest and greatest tracks.

Top Tracks This Week

Again, not a lot of monumental change on this week's top artists chart, although Crowded House does jump nine spots into the top 10 thanks to their recent album "Time On Earth". If you follow this link you'll see that they're actually tied with Yo La Tengo, Wilco, and several other artists in the number ten slot, and by following that link you can also see the top weekly albums as well as overall charts and archives from previous weeks.
