This weekend, I’ll most likely be attending the Fall 2007 Record & CD Swap Meet here in Vancouver. It’s sponsored by Neptoon Records, and they hold one every six months or so, usually at the Croatian Cultural Centre. Despite the name of the venue, anyone can attend. They’ve always let me enter in the past, and I’m neither Croatian nor cultured.
It’s a great place to get good deals on new and used vinyl since most of the record dealers in Greater Vancouver are there in one place. CDs usually only make up a small portion of what’s available, but the Croatian Cultural Centre is more or less in my neighbourhood, so I usually try to attend whenever the swap meet comes around.
And if you’re into celebrity spotting, it’s a surprisingly good event for that. In the past, I’ve seen Terry David Mulligan, Joe Keithley from D.O.A. and Nardwuar The Human Serviette. There are probably scores of Vancouver musicians in the crowd who I didn’t recognize as well.
It’s this Sunday, September 16th from 11-5pm at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive. Admission is a measly $2.
