The station is listener-supported, so if you like what you hear please consider making a donation. You won't hear any commercials on Dynamic Range Radio, so the only way I can pay the bills is through the generous support of listeners just like you, or by commissions through affiliates like Amazon. Sounds good Mr.Erle! If only for a short time today. Sundays seem like a bad day for me to listen for a long time. I'll tune in on the Tuesday and Thursday for a more extended time, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteOkay! Only got in 35 minutes today. Got home later than expected. Sounded good for that short time, even had to look for a song that I didn't recognized. I missed any Power Pop that got played! Will tune in Thursday for longer period of time, hopefully. I don't want to miss the Power Pop this time.
ReplyDeleteYou are a saint!
ReplyDeleteAnyone who loves music this much is indeed a kindred spirit. I frequently rant about crappy compressed MP3 files on my blog and I really appreciate what you are trying to do here. I'll definitely give it a listen and look into offering some support down the road (I'll definitely link to you as well)
peace!
OK - so you have become the official station of my website, and I want to know what else we can do to be better friends! Your Halloween mix is amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy friendship can be bought rather easily. Sending me a bunch of webhits would be a great start. Continuing to use words like "amazing" also helps. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI linked you in a very large manner - let me know if you approve.

I always approve of links. How could I not? Thanks a bunch.
ReplyDeletePS - I haven't had time for more than a quick peek at your site, but once Halloween is over and I'm less busy I'll take a proper look.
Cheers!
Well, what a pleasant surprise. I'm a regular RP listener, mid-50's (I consider myself quite 'hip', however), teacher, haven't heard commercial radio in "who knows"? I must say that Bill tends to chase me away with some of his sets on RP, so I was sniffing around today (Sunday) while doing some weekly plans for something new. I fluked to DRR on the iTunes Radio list. I've been here for about 10-12 tunes - nice mix! I see my school blog is tagged here, which is weird. Anyway, bravo! I'll stay tuned this week (usually at nights and weekends). Actually, I can pick you up in my class because I do so with RP. This will be a DRR week in 8MM.
ReplyDeleteBitrate up, above 192 kbit/s at least, please. Compression artifacts are clearly audible and sound is blurred.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise this is a great idea which I fully support.
Thanks again, Mr. Mitchell. I assume you're the same Michael who left a few messages in the chatbox. Who else but an RP listener would notice the absence of Porcupine Tree? ;-)
ReplyDeleteRE: 192k, that would sound even better, but it's not feasible at this time. Plus, I'd be severely limiting my potential audience at such a high bitrate. Still, I think my 128k stream sounds better than the heavily processed 192k streams that are out there.
ReplyDeleteYour point is noted, John. I see from the comments on RP that Bill has a bit of a shine for PT among others. Keep spinning; sounds good. Do you get a cut from iTunes - or just Amazon?
ReplyDeleteFor the time being I only receive commissions from Amazon, but it may be a good time to re-apply for iTunes affiliate program.
ReplyDeletehi, I'm an Ontario "artist" and would be interested in sending you some tracks if they'd fit in with your style...

I love music, and I have listened to a lot of internet radio, but your station is the best I have ever heard. You are the only one I play now.
ReplyDeleteI love everything you play, and somehow- you always choose the right song for whatever mood I am in.
I play you all day and into the night.
My daughter always laughs when I come running into the room and turn up the volume to a song you picked and I love-LOL, I bet I do it 50 times a day! LOL!!
My feet are always tapping, and I am singing my heart out. Where have you been all my life? LOL!
Thank you for the tunes, and I will be supporting you as soon.
Thanks, WarriorX. That's easily one of the best comments I've ever received. I particularly liked that last part about support. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey John,
ReplyDeleteYou are really rocking these past few days! A lot of us in the USA are waiting for our tax returns, when I get mine,
OH baby, you will be the very first person who gets some of my hard earned bucks from '08.
All I have to amuse me these days, is your station.
I just keep repairing things, picking up branches and getting the garden ready,
I blast your sound across the block.
Good thing you throw in some Steve Earl-, LOL, 'cause I am in the deepest part of the southern midwest. Most of my neighbors are into country- I grew up with Hank and Patsy, so it can bore me, but Steve Earl is different- Kinda like Bob Dylan,or Lyle Lovett- a crossover.
My love of musical expression is so vast and deep, how you manage to choose every song I like is sublime. Keep it flowing.
Good things are coming your way.
Thanks for the comment, and keep on rocking the neighbours.
ReplyDeletePS - I'm working on my own taxes right now, and seeing how much money DRR lost last year is going to give my accountant friend a heart attack tomorrow.
This is great, it's so nice to enjoy the music for a change. I cant wait to hear some Pink Floyd on here.
ReplyDeleteMy husband recommended your station and the first time I listened you played one of my favorite songs of all time...Iona's "Edge of the World". It's such a rare song, I couldn't believe it what I was hearing! Love your station. You play some real gems.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sara. I love some ethereal Celtic music from time to time. Iona, Clannad, Enya, I play 'em all.
ReplyDeleteAnd double thanks for the donation!
Oops, I've just left a comment on the post below this one. I just wanted to let you know you are a recent discover and I now only play your station and really love it. I've just made a small donation and when I have more, I'll send more. I'd really miss DRR if it wasn't there, so that message definitely hit the mark. Is there a widget for DRR that I can put on my own blog? If not, I'll make a link in my sidebar. I've become a 'fan' on Facebook, but am much more of a blogger really.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that widgets or banners are something I'll never be able to design myself, so I keep hoping some listener with expertise in that area will choose to volunteer their time. Until then, link away.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, thanks for the donation!
Hey John,
ReplyDeleteas always your music plays in my home, where ever that may be at the moment. Gypsy girl that I am, dancing in the kitchen, singing along,
You are a kindred spirit to so many people. I read it over and over in the posts. I am still mesmerized by the $100.00 song Tirade Of A Shitty Mom.
Thanks for the music,
WarriorX
John, you just keep up your musical genius. The money will come. How lucky I am to have this in my life. Thank you, Alison G.
ReplyDeleteJohn, just discovered your wonderful Dynamic Range Radio via an online friend (he's in the UK!). I love how you put together your sets - and especially like the wide range of music. Back in the early 80s I worked in a record store in Toronto and developed pretty wide-ranging tastes then, which can be pretty hard to satisfy with just one radio station. Yours is doing a darn good job!! Keep up the great work - and I sent in a donation via Paypal which I hope will help a bit!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, Paddy, and thanks especially for the donation! And tell your friend in the UK that I really appreciate the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteAs for working in a record shop, that would probably be a decent job for me, if not for the whole dealing with the public thing. ;-)
It looks like this board isn't used much and I couldn't find a contact/email section...not sure if anyone will see this...anyhow, thanks for playing the Connells this morning, really brought me back.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the Connells!
ReplyDeleteI saw your post, and people will occasionally see it here, but the Facebook page is where the most activity is. Cheers!
Wow - Haven't heard MC900 FT Jesus for awhile. Keep up the great work !
ReplyDeleteA classic track that deserves to be heard every once in a while!
ReplyDeleteSeriously...Smithereens followed by Stone Roses...did you hijack my personal cd collections or what?? Good stuff!!
ReplyDeleteThe Smithereens are one of my all-time favourites!
ReplyDeleteIn case you didn't know, the release a new album yesterday titled "Smithereens 2011".
ReplyDeleteVery excited about new My Morning Jacket. I was less than impressed with Evil Urges. Here's hoping...
ReplyDeleteI liked Evil Urges, but if they want to return to their old sound I'm okay with that too. I'll probably add the title track from the new album into the rotation when I get a chance this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIs today's theme distortion? Something is turned up too high.
ReplyDeleteEverything sounds fine on my end. Have you checked your EQ? What are you using to listen?
ReplyDeleteSeems good now might have just been a few songs with liberal use of distortion as art.
ReplyDeleteI am using vlc w/ no eq.
Thank you so much for not squashing the music like so many do!!
Judging by what was playing when you left your first comment that's probably what it was. One song in that set was borderline, but I think the compression works in that particular case.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks!
Testing to see if Blogger's new embedded comments feature is working properly.
DeleteYay, it works! That makes it much easier to have an actual conversation in the comments section and figure out who's replying to whom.
DeleteFYI: I've seen that some people are having trouble leaving comments on Blogger sites, including mine. For me, turning off the cookies blocker seems to help.
DeleteJohn! Thanks for playing "Feel Flows" by the Beach Boys. I think you may be the only DJ that plays that one. Excellent taste! KurtfromLaQuinta
ReplyDeleteMy favorite band ever. Thanks for playing Portishead, John. I've never actually heard it on the radio anywhere, as far as I can recall. -Bart from Amsterdam
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it, Bart. I think I play a lot of artists who don't normally get played on the radio. That's part of why I do what I do.
DeleteNot sure who the girl/women/young lady that was on today around 1, talks to much and says nothing, back to Radio Paradise for me or could you list when she is not on?
ReplyDeleteI'm the only DJ around here, so I'm not sure what you mean. You may have been listening to some other station.
